Description
Venture Volksmarch -- A People's March
Join us for the first annual Venture Volksmarch. The event is a 3-mile, all-ages, all-family Volkswanderen (or walk, in English) through Parley's Historic Nature Park. Modeled after the ages old German tradition, the Volksmarch is a great way for kids, families and adults to enjoy the park's natural beauty and unique history while walking and socializing with family, friends and neighbors. In keeping with German tradition, the walk will finish with music by the 23rd Army Band Brass Quintet and complimentary kuchen (fresh cake) provided by Creatively Amy.
Volksmarching is a relaxing and enjoyable to toss off the stress of daily life. it's an all-ages activity that the whole family can participate in. The pace can be adjusted to meet the abilities of each individual. You can walk as long as you like and as fast as you like. There's time to slow down, explore, and discover because there's no rush to get to the end. volksmarches are non-competitive, in that there is no race -- the competitiion is with yourself. Rugged strollers encouraged to cover rough terrain.
The Volksmarch begins at Canyon Rim Park and continues through the neighborhood to Tanner Park and onward into Parley's Historic Nature Park, where the route follows the cool mountain water of Parley's Creek. Children can stop and play at the "Whomping Willow." History buffs can take note of the historic sites that dot the route. Once through the park, the route winds back through the nieghborhood returning to Canyon Rim Park where they are welcomed across the finish line by the 23rd Army Band Brass Quintet. Water will be available at stations manned by civic groups, to include Millcreek Fidos and the Lions Club. All Volksmarch participants are automatically eligible for the Grand Prize Drawings.
The First Annual Venture Volksmarch is sponsored by Footloose Volkssport Club of Salt Lake City in partnership with Millcreek Township, Salt Lake County, Salt Lake City and the USDA Forest Service. Weber Job Basin will be providing volunteers for the event.
